  • Overview

    Responsibilities involve assisting the Senior Director of Risk Management in the purchase of new or renewal insurance programs; claims management and administration; management of relationships with internal stakeholders and external third party service providers including brokers, attorneys, insurers and TPAs; preparing loss analyses and financial analyses; gathering and analyzing of data; records maintenance and management; and reporting.


    • Serve as the main point of contact for Smashburger management regarding all team member and guest claims.
    • Work directly with Smashburger management and Third Party Adjusters to promptly report, investigate, and manage team member and guest claims up to a certain authority level.
    • Communicate and coach Smashburger field and corporate management groups regarding safety and security related items. Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
    • Manages day to day loss prevention programs including key systems, safes, alarms and surveillance systems.
    • Assists with the insurance underwriting renewal process including gathering, analyzing and preparing underwriting data for marketing submissions.
    • Maintain all database records of insurance policy documents, schedule of all property locations, certificates of insurance, auto schedules, claims (both open and closed) and OSHA reporting.
    • Reviews and processes risk management claims and invoices; ensures assignment of costs to appropriate account numbers.
    • Provides insurance and risk management analytical guidance and consultation.
    • Responsible for continuous data collection, spreadsheet development and management;
    • Maintains productive working relationships with district insurance brokers, carriers, TPAs, attorneys and Risk Management customers.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.



    • Prefer 1 to 3 years of work experience in risk management
    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) including experience creating complex spreadsheets in Excel.
    • Ability to build, maintain, and strengthen cross functional relationships at all levels within the Smashburger; demonstrated success in customer service and relationship management.
    • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects from conception through implementation as well as day to day matters.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and critical thinking skills. Ability to work independently as individual contributor as well as collaboratively as a team member.
    • Ability to compare, analyze, and evaluate large amounts of information and data.
    • Proven ability to convert data and information to strategy and to implement best practices and process improvements.
    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, insurance or risk management or related field preferred or equivalent experience.
